Director, Photographic Services

What causes you more anxiety, a trip to the dentist or having your photo taken?

Early in my photography career, the subject of a story I was working on brought his nervousness to my attention, and to this day, my first step before I take any portrait is to calm my subject and build a trust and a bond between us.

I have been a photographer with the WashU community since 1998 and have had the opportunity to work with countless departments to document the lives and accomplishments of faculty, students and staff. Besides handling individual assignments, my duties include orchestrating photo coverage of major WashU events. Examples include the presidential and vice presidential debates, the inauguration of Chancellor Mark S. Wrighton, campaign kickoffs, ground breakings, building dedications, reunions, Founders’ Day and Commencement.

As a freelance sports photographer, I’ve had the opportunity to cover the 1994 World Cup, the 1985 and 1987 World Series, the 1988 NHL All-Star Game and the 2009 MLB All-Star Game. WashU assignments have offered me the opportunity to work with three presidents, a UN secretary general and three secretaries of state.

I am proud grandfather and enjoy the game of golf.
